Development Manager / Senior Product Architect

The Development Manager / Senior Product Architect is a key member of the senior team and is responsible for achievement of the overall corporate strategy and realization of the product vision. The role requires the ability to effectively lead and manage a professional development team and to identify, select and implement optimal technology for the delivery of high quality, market leading products. The Development Manager / Senior Product Architect leads the formulation of research to assure the company maintains a competitive lead in product technology.  In addition, the Development Manager / Senior Product Architect is responsible for all facets and development of product delivery from iterative design to general availability.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all aspects of the on-spec and on time delivery of Provance software products

  • Lead, mentor, motivate and manage development and quality control team members

  • Guide and assist developers with coding problems and perform low level debugging of complex issues

    Establish technical objectives for the company and provide technical expertise in determining product strategy

  • Research new technologies, new approaches and prototype new solutions and functionality

  • Interact with customers and understand customers’ needs and problems to design effective solutions

  • Determine architecture, and review design and code quality

  • Work with Product Manager and VP to determine, define and prioritize requirements and propose solutions

  • Prepare software development estimates and implementation schedules

  • Plan and review development sprints, assign and review tasks, lead stand up meetings and maintain sprint backlog

  • Review all necessary design documents and user documentation

  • Determine severity and priority of defects and manage the correction of outstanding defects

  • Ensure performance and scalability targets are met and continually improved

  • Review quality status and approve product releases

  • Ensure conformance with ISO product development sub-processes

  • Assist, as required, with 3rd level support, presales, professional services and IT

Competencies and Qualifications

  • Strong expertise and in depth knowledge of Microsoft development languages, technologies and applications: .NET 3.5, WPF, WCF; Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7;  Microsoft Visual Studio; Microsoft Team Foundation Server; Microsoft SQL Server 2008

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant progressive experience with 5 years of management experience in software development

  • Post Secondary education in a relevant field

  • Exceptional vision and leadership skills

  • Management experience and in depth knowledge of the Agile development methodology

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft System Center products, SharePoint and the IT asset management domain is desirable

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong product design and architectural skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Strong problem solving skills

  • Organized and methodical with consistent attention to details

  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize job tasks in order to meet tight deadlines
