The Provance Blog will provide you with expert advice, insights and opinions in regard to IT Service Management, Microsoft, Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Microsoft System Center.
Last month at System Center Universe 2014 in Houston, I was joined by Christian Booth from Microsoft for two presentations about Microsoft System Center 2012, with particular emphasis on Service Manager.
If you weren’t able to attend or missed either of our sessions, recordings of the two presentations are now available online. As well, there are two additional Service Manager videos available in the library of past SCU Network Recordings you may also want to add to your playlist. Here’s a quick synopsis of the four videos with links to the recordings. If you will, something of a virtual “TV Guide” for Microsoft System Center 2012 – Service Manager!
Service Manager Solution Showcase!Just after lunch, Christian and I had the distinction of presenting the single shortest session at SCU 2014: “Service Manager Solution Showcase!” In just 15 minutes, Christian outlined the rich extensibility features that Service Manager provides, and then we proceeded to run through a quick "speed dating" style introduction to several of the inspired third-party extensions that add powerful functionality and enhanced capabilities to Service Manager. The presentation closed with the introduction and launch of SystemCenterSolutionStore.com, a new web site providing a showcase of the products featured in the session as well as many, many more.
IT Asset Management for Microsoft System CenterLate in the afternoon, Christian Booth and I teamed again for IT Asset Management for Microsoft System Center, which was the single most popular breakout session at SCU 2014 based on combined live attendance and remote participation. In the session, we walk front to back through the life of an asset, from request to retirement, featuring a demonstration of an IT asset management solution combining System Center 2012, the management packs for IT Asset Management from Provance, the Syliance ITSM Portal and Gridpro WebFront for Service Manager. When you watch the video it’s clear that Christian and I are both fortunate to be able to have so much fun and get paid for it!

Past SCU Network RecordingsIn the archive of Past SCU Network Recordings, there are two additional Service Manager videos:
The Benefits of Combined IT Service Management and IT Asset Management looks at how these traditionally separate disciplines can be combined to deliver even greater value and organizational impact. Specific emphasis is place on demonstrating how Microsoft System Center can be used to realize enormous synergy and economies of scale by combining and consolidating their overlapping processes, technologies and data.
Building an Effective SAM (Software Asset Management) Program using System Center, draws heavily on sessions presented at the invitation of Microsoft at three of the last four Worldwide Partner Conferences. Software asset management is the single biggest driver of IT asset management adoption. The SCU Network presentation describes the capabilities and components of System Center 2012 that can be used to support effective software asset management and the many benefits of using a solution based on System Center. The central focus of the session is the demonstration of a SAM solution using System Center 2012.
But wait… there’s more!In addition to these four Service Manager-related videos, there are seemingly endless hours of recordings available from SCU 2014 on Microsoft System Center and its various components – thanks to the busy folks at Catapult who bring all this valuable information to the System Center community!
