The Provance Blog will provide you with expert advice, insights and opinions in regard to IT Service Management, Microsoft, Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Microsoft System Center.
As a follow up to a great blog post by Gord Watts, entitled How to Fund and Equip Your IT Asset Management Program, I wanted to point out some outcome oriented case studies from a few of our many customers
Let me walk you through four examples taken from recent Provance customer success stories.
$165,000 saved in the first year through hardware refresh planning: Our customer First Wind used Provance to manage its refresh cycles. First Wind was able to accurately report on hardware reliability based on incidents, and identified 100 computers whose life could be extended another year by renewing support contracts at a cost of $150 each. Compared to a replacement cost of $1,800, that resulted in $165,000 of savings.
$100,000 initial savings from IT support contracts: Our customer Pakistan Petroleum was managing their IT environment using Excel spreadsheets, with little more than 30% accuracy. After they implemented Provance, their inventory accuracy levels jumped to 100%. This alone allowed PPL to save $100,000 in outsourced IT support contracts.
£2,000,000 saved annually through a combined ITAM and IT Service Management (ITSM) solution. Our customer Wiltshire Council implemented a highly automated and combined solution from Microsoft and Provance, and in doing so increased service management efficiency while saving millions annually on outsourced IT services.
As independent business entities from different countries and industries, each of these three sample customers implemented ITAM programs for their own specific reasons, yet they all shared in an immediate return on investment (ROI) from their Provance ITAM investments.
If you’ve ever crossed paths with one of us from Provance, then you’ll probably recall our famous saying “IT Asset Management (ITAM) is a journey.” While our motto will always hold true for the domain of ITAM, those seeking to champion or implement ITAM programs should take note that it doesn’t preclude a quick ROI, which can start immediately helping you get executive buy-in to quickly implement and expand your ITAM program.
As tangible short-term benefits grow into long term benefits, you can quickly expand your ITAM program to include such things as Orchestrator-based automation, software asset management, bar code tracking and contract and lease management. As the saying goes, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”
